NOTE 2: LETTER from Frederic A. Delano, Washington, D.C. January 7, 1938; Mrs. Alberta S. Hackett; 603 Main Street; Reading, Massachusetts; My dear Mrs. Hackett: My sister Mrs. Roosevelt, The President's mother, has asked me to answer your letter addressed to her some time ago, and without date. As you perhaps know, the Delano family had a genealogy prepared some years ago in 1899, and while it has a good many inaccuracies, it is the sole book of reference that I know of on the subject. I am well acquainted with the Mr. Preston Delano who is at the head of the Home Owners Loan Corporation, and lives in this city. I do not know whether the Preston Delano to whom you refer in your letter, your great grandfather, was a close relative of the Preston Delano whom I know, but I worked out his genealogy in comparison to my own, and I enclose herewith a typewritten copy which gives this information. You will note from this that Mr. Preston Delano and The President are fifth cousins/ I trust that this will give you the information that you wish. Yours very truly, (signed) Frederic Delano; Enclosure: Genealogy from letter enclosure.
