NOTE 2:
The family came to Western Nebraska in March of
1887. They came by railroad in an emigrant car with their
household goods and livestock as far as Sidney, Nebraska. There
they purchased a wagon to haul their
belongs to a location which later became their home south of
McGrew. An interesting phenomenon happened while on the journey
to McGrew. Robert's father walked besides his wagon most of the
way from Sidney. There was snow on the ground with lots of
moonlight. Because of this he suffered night-blindness from
which he never recovered. They had three children who died in
infancy, one died at the age of three, five boys and one girl
grew to adulthood.
